This afternoon, a Baltimore County police officer was shot outside the Wilkens Precinct near the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) campus. Around 2:30 p.m., an armed individual approached the officer in the precinct’s parking lot and opened fire. The officer was immediately transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma Center, where he is currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is in custody, and authorities are investigating the incident. Our thoughts are with the injured officer and their family during this difficult time.
