BALTIMORE, MD — As the 150th Preakness Stakes captivated horse racing enthusiasts, AfroPreak 2025 emerged as a dynamic celebration of Black culture, fashion, and community at Pimlico Race Course. Spanning three days from May 15 to 17, the event showcased the rich tapestry of Black excellence, coinciding with the historic milestone of Preakness 150.

A Cultural Renaissance at the Races
Founded in 2022 by entrepreneurs LaRian Finney and Derrick Chase, AfroPreak was conceived to infuse the traditional Preakness experience with vibrant expressions of Black identity and achievement. "This weekend is about redefining access," said Finney. "By expanding AfroPreak to a full weekend and partnering with Urban Golf Weekend, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive cultural destination that delivers economic value to Baltimore’s local businesses and communities".
The festivities commenced on Thursday with a welcome reception at BLK Swan, bringing together leaders in business, arts, and activism for an evening of entertainment and cultural connection. Friday introduced the inaugural AfroPreak Golf Invitational at Pine Ridge Golf Course, a collaboration with Urban Golf Weekend aimed at promoting diversity in the sport. Proceeds from the tournament supported BTST Cares and its youth-focused programs.
Saturday's Grand Finale
The celebration culminated on Saturday, May 17, with AfroPreak taking center stage in the infield at Pimlico Race Course. Attendees were treated to a luxurious experience featuring a culinary lineup that included Slutty Vegan, Bar Vegan, Carolina Kitchen, Island Quizine, and Poppin Shells Seafood. The entertainment roster boasted performances by DJ Quicksilva, DJ Flow, DJ P Drama, DJ Supream, and The Bearded Drummer, creating an electrifying atmosphere that resonated throughout the venue.
Notable figures such as NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, NFL quarterback Cam Newton, and members of the Baltimore Ravens, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, were spotted among the crowd, adding star power to the already illustrious event.

A Movement Beyond the Track
AfroPreak's impact extends beyond the confines of Pimlico, symbolizing a broader movement to celebrate and empower Black communities. "AfroPreak is more than an event — it’s a movement," said Chase. "The growth of this platform reflects national demand for culturally relevant activations that uplift communities and drive pride in place".
As the sun set on Preakness 150, AfroPreak 2025 stood as a testament to the power of cultural celebration and community engagement, leaving an indelible mark on Baltimore's storied racing tradition.
